Mercom Corporation is seeking qualified candidates for a Consulting Sales Engineer in our Fairfax, VA office. Responsibilities include:

  • Drive sales with hands-on technical expertise, account management skills, sales ability, exceptional customer focus, and empower customers to fit our products to all fo their needs. 
  • Provide technical support to customers and our sales team
  • Help to design networks.
  • Assist customers with initial design of products.
  • Create configurations based on engineering designs.
  • Provide emergency support to Customer Engineering, Management and Sales teams.
  • Set up equipment for demonstrations to existing and prospective customers and sales teams.
  • Provide technical assistance in the optimization, productivity and learning for customers on products and services Mercom can provide.
  • Represent Mercom in client meetings and at trade shows. 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One or more of the following OEM technical certifications for engineering and sales engineering required (Cisco CCIE, CCDA, VMWare, Aruba, Oracle Exadata, Symantec DLP. Avaya VoIP, Networking or Telephony. Citrix Engineer, EMC Isilon, or VNXe TA) 
  • 5+ years of sales engineering, reseller or business development experience in a high technical sales environment with a demonstrated track record of success in driving customer adoption of technology.
  • Strong understanding of and hands on experience with networking technology such as routers, switches, hubs, data networking and unified communications.
  • High level of specialized sales and product solution knowledge.
  • Thorough understanding of one or more of the following areas: Application/Server Virtualization, Datacenter Storage and Platform Performance/Sizing, Mobility/Wireless, Data Networking, Unified Communications and Video Technologies, and Cloud/Managed IT/ Network Management.
  • Understand technical sales techniques and processes to include the ability to understand customer needs, overcome objections, assist in the development of business cases, and technically close deals.
  • Experience selling servers, storage hardware, or networking.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP or other networking protocol. 
  • Knowledge and experience working with Government agencies and the Federal sector to include knowledge and understanding of government contracting.

  • Language Skills - Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to Speak, Read, Write and Comprehend the English language.
  • Mathematical Skills - Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Reasoning Ability - Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Computer Skills - To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Design software; Internet software; Email software: Spreadsheet software and Word Processing
